Greatest RB in Colt's Franchise History

Posted on: July 21, 2008 2:24 pm

alright friends, the votes stand as follows:  Duane Bickett - 3, Jeff Herrod - 3, Mike Curtis - 2, Don Shinnick, Ted Hendricks, Ray May, Quentin Coryatt.  i kind of like this, it means i don't have to do any tie breaking.

therefore, the winners are Duane Bickett, Jeff Herrod, and Mike Curtis.

as we wind this down, this week, we will focus on the second to last position, RB.  over the years, the colts have had many great RB, including HOFers Lenny Moore and Eric Dickerson, as well as future HOFer Marshall Faulk and potentially future HOF edgerrin james.  despite the fact that we have 4 very worthy RB's, the voting will work the same.  choose 1 RB and vote for him.  the highest total wins.  remember, only count the time a RB spent with the colts.  this means you should ignore faulk's great years with the Rams as well as james's not so great years with the Cardinals.

as always, happy voting!

RULES: The way it works is that every Monday, we will vote for the Greatest Colts player at a certain position. The following Monday, I will tally the votes and mark the winner(s) on the below list. In the event of a tie, I will break it using my own humble opinion, because this is my blog and I make the rules haha. Rate players based only on their time with the Colts. For instance, when voting for RB, ignore Marshall Faulk's years in St. Louis, or Edgerrin James's time in Arizona. Feel free/encouraged to look all the way back to the Baltimore Colts. Debate is also encouraged, and if you are changing you vote later in the week, be sure to note this.

All Time Colts Team:

RB - ?
WR - Marvin Harrison
WR - Raymond Barry
TE - John Mackey
TE/FB - Ken Dilger

LT - Tarik Glenn

Defense:

DT - Tony Siragusa
DE - Gino Marchetti
OLB - Duane Bickett
MLB - Jeff Herrod
OLB - Mike Curtis

CB - Eugene Daniel
CB - Bobby Boyd
S - Bob Sanders

Greatest RB in Colt's Franchise History

NOT MY VOTES AS I DO NOT GET TO VOTE:

votes cast by member "strange" in the very first post: "RB - Alan Ameche, Eric Dickerson, Lenny Moore"

that is copied and pasted what he typed, which to me means his first place vote goes to alan ameche.  if anyone thinks differently, let me know, but for now, ameche stands alone with 1 vote, courtesy of "strange", not me, as i have tiebreaker privileges and do not get to vote.

(btw, sorry i forget to mention ameche in my for real post.  he is for sure a worthy RB, but i only did a very quick jog of my memory and i totally left him out)

Greatest RB in Colt's Franchise History

wow look at this, i get to be the first on other than cirknick to post on this one!  i'm pumped haha!

as great as ameche, dickerson, and faulk were for the colts, imo, this really comes down to lenny moore and edgerrin james.  saving my good friend "cirknick" the work (sorry guys, not going to use his real name, you'll just have to keep guessing...and no it's not either 'cirk' or 'nick') of the stats and give you some right now.

when you look at their time with the colts (EJ 9 years, LM 13), they have the following numbers:  rushing yards (EJ 9226, LM 5174), rushing TD's (EJ 64, LM 63), recieveing yards (EJ 3260, LM 6039), and recieving TD's (EJ 11, LM 48).  pro bowls (EJ 4, LM 7).

Edge also owns 4 of the 5 greatest rushing seasons in colts history, but lenny moore is in the HOF.

EDGE looks to have the edge based on purely rushing stats, but moore looks like the more complete back (11,213 total yards and 111 TD's (actually 113 if you count passing TD's) to james's 12,486 total yards and 75 TD's).  plus, lenny moore played in a different time, where a RB's numbers are not as high as they are today, meaning my choice is a fairly simple one.  LENNY MOORE all the way baby!
